Colten Cowell Foundation
Web Designer
Summary
In 2014 I was working as a contractor for Ogilvy and Mather specifically taking on the task of creating a website for the Colten Cowell foundation (then a philanthropist’s passion project created to help benefit children in need of a temporary escape from life’s bitter harshness). The purpose of the site was to 1) Provide credibility for the foundation by having a means to display what the foundation was all about 2) Provide a portal for donations. With only a couple of pictures in hand, I designed this website within a month and handed it off to the devs.
My roleWeb Designer
With only a few resources in hand and a list of topics to cover, my main goal was to provide a framework that can be recycled for any type of layout. I laid out 5 pages and provided design elements for the foundation to utilize once we handed the project over.
ProblemsWhat happens after?
Aside from a couple of images and a video, the only other asset that was provided to me was the foundation's logo. Following along the comic book theme and a suggested color palette, I researched vintage comic book styles and presented a couple of options to our client. Luckily the client was easy to please and went with an over the top look similar to the "Bam" style (the kind you'd often see in old batman comic's when they punched a bad guy). Providing design assets went off without any issues, but my main concern was providing a versatile enough framework for them to use without the aid of a web designer. Fast forward to today and the framework is still in tact and the foundation has partnered with many other charities and organizations.
